On Jan 1st 2002 France adopted the Euro and the French Franc has now gone out of circulation.
Coins:1 and 2 Euros / 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents
Notes:5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 Euros

All notes and coins are legal tender in all Eurozone countries regardless of their country of issue.

BANKS

You will most certainly want to open a bank account, therefore it is a good idea to choose a branch near to where you are staying.
The main banks include: BNP, Banque Populaire, Credit Agricole, Société Generale, and Credit Lyonnais
To open a bank account you will need certain documents for example: Passport and proof of address in France i.e. a letter from your landlord and also your student card. After a few months the bank may require you to show your residence permit - “Carte de Sejour”.
